On Wednesday, at an event in New Delhi, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5
and Redmi Note 5 Pro were open to the Indian market. The Chinese tech-giant actually doubled the
event with the launch of their Mi TV 4 series of televisions in India. However,
we’re in for the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro launch, aren’t we?
The large 5.99 inch 18:9 aspect ratio, the selfie-light
module, and a hefty 4000mAh battery are the biggest highlights of the new
Xiaomi smartphone.
Both newly launched smartphones shares specifications
similar to each other with some major differences. For example, the use of a
dual camera setup at the rear on the Redmi Note 5 pro, and a high-resolution
camera in front. Also, a face unlock feature is expected to arrive in March
with an OTA update.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Specifications
The Redmi Note 5 draws many similarities from the Xiaomi
Redmi 5 Plus—launched in China last year in December. It wouldn’t be off beam
to call the Redmi Note 5 the Indian version of Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus.
Xiaomi has launched Redmi Note 5 with a 5.99-inch full-HD
(1080 x 2160 pixels) display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, 84 percent NTSC
color gamut, 450-nit brightness, and 2.5D curved glass.
It also has a dual-Sim slot and runs on MIUI 9 based on
Android Nougat.
The core of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is powered by an octa-core
Snapdragon 625 Chip which can clock up to 2GHz. Adreno 506 GPU tackles the
graphics output, and it comes with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM memory. Also, a
fingerprint sensor is attached to the rear panel of the smartphone.
The company has opted a 12-megapixel rear camera, with an
aperture of f/2.2 and 1.25-micron pixel size, EIS, PDAF and LED flash module.
The selfie-shooter bears a 5-megapixel sensor with an LED selfie-light module
and Beautify and 3.0 beatification technology.
As mentioned earlier, the Redmi Note 5 has two storage
variants; 32GB and 64GB—which are expandable using microSD card via the hybrid
dual-SIM slot.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has various connectivity options.
They range from Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 3.5mm headphone jack, 4G VoLTE, and
Micro-USB. With 5V/2A fast charging support, the phone is powered by a 4000mAh
battery.
With the smartphone, the users get an adapter which has been
designed for India and it measures 158.5mm x 45mm x 8.05 mm and weighs 180
grams (the adapter is same for both the smartphones).
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Specifications
Similar to the Redmi Note 5, the Redmi Note 5 Pro runs on
MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat. It also
has a dual-SIM hybrid slot.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has the similar display to Redmi
Note 5 which includes a 5.99-inch full-HD (1080 x 2160 pixels) screen with an
aspect ratio of 18:9, 83 percent NTSC color gamut, 450-nit brightness, and 2.5D
curved glass.
The CPU is an octa-core Snapdragon 636 SoC which can boost
up to 1.8GHz. The graphics output functions on Adreno 509 GPU. And the phone
comes with either 6GB or 4GB of RAM.
Redmi Note 5 Pro is the maiden device in the world that runs
on Snapdragon 636 SoC, and it makes it the “fastest Redmi Note ever” with an
AnTuTu score of 109,692. The smartphone also bears a fingerprint sensor on the
back panel.
The dual camera set-up of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes
with the 12-megapixel primary sensors with an aperture of f/2.20 and
1.25-micron pixel size, while the secondary camera has the 5-megapixel sensor
with f/2.0 aperture and 1.12-micron pixel size. The dual rear camera setup has
an LED flash module. With LED selfie-light module, the front camera boasts a 20
megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor complete with a Beautify 4.0 beautification technology
with has been optimized for India.
Both rear and front camera present Portrait mode and Bokeh
effects.
When it comes to storage Xioami Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with
a single storage variant—64GB that can be extended using microSD card through a
hybrid dual-Sim slot.
The Xiaomo Redmi Note 5 Pro connectivity options include
Bluetooth, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, a Micro-USB and a 3.5mm headphone
jack. It gets power from a 4000mAh battery that can stand up to 14 hours of
continuous video playback, and supports 5V/2A fast charging.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Price in India
In India, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is available from INR
9,999 for the base variant which comes with 32GB storage and 3GB of RAM. The
next level variant of the smartphone will cost INR 11,999 with 4GB of RAM and
64GB of onboard storage.
You can choose colors from Lake Blue, Black, Gold and Rose
Gold. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is expected to go on sale from February 22
onwards via Mi Home, Mi.com, and Flipkart. Fans can also purchase the
smartphone via all Xiaomi’s offline retail partners.
As for launch offers, the buyers will get the Redmi Note 5
and Redmi Note 5 pro with an ultra-slim case bundle, additional cash back worth
of INR 2,200 from JIO with 100 percent extra data.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Price in India
In India, the variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro starts
at INR 13,999 for 64GB storage and 4GB RAM variant, and the price goes up to
INR 16,999 for the better variant which has a 6GB RAM and 64GB onboard space.
The color scheme of the phone is the same as the Redmi Note
5; Rose Gold, Gold, Lake Bule and Black.
February 22 –a similar launch date is locked to purchase the phone via
Mi.com, Mi Home, and Flipkart.
And it will come with the same offer as the Redmi Note 5.

Mi.com online, and offline at Mi Home retails stores in India.
